NHL Analysis 3/11

4 / 100

Boston vs NY Rangers

With an injury to Tuukka Rask, this means we should see Jaro Halak tonight. I think he’s an above average play to consider. The Boston side is easy. You can play the top line if you fancy it. I think Trent Frederic is an interesting punt as well on the third line. On the Rags side, Adam Fox is becoming an elite defensiveman before our eyes. I think a Fox and Pavel Buchnevich stack is fairly cheap for the recent form. If you want to try something cheaper, I can get behind using one or both of Filip Chytil and K’Andre Miller. Alex Georgiev is not in an ideal position, but Boston’s offense is very inconsistent. GPP upside play for sure.

Buffalo vs Pittsburgh

Buffalo’s studs have started to show some life without Jack Eichel in the lineup. Maybe that’s more due to the fact that they played the Flyers. If you want to take a shot at guys like Taylor Hall, Sam Reinhart, and Victor Olofsson, then be my guest. They’re super cheap for their roles on the team and Pittsburgh isn’t exactly the most stout team defensively. On the other side, I can imagine Sidney Crosby is going to be popular today. I think all of the prominent Pens are going to be more popular than usual. They’re on a heater and get a bad matchup at lower than expected prices. I don’t think going to the Pens is a priority if you’re only making one line, but getting a little across multiple lineups is smart. I think, again, Tristan Jarry will be popular for the matchup. He’s GPP eligible but I’m not too big a fan. Jonas Johansson on the other hand will be like 2% owned and has a fair amount of upside, but it is a super risky play.

New Jersey vs NY Islanders

On a ten game slate, I really don’t recommend spending up here. I don’t want to play this game but I know some of you might. I mean, Mat Barzal is only 6k. He’s the only exception here. I look up and down the slate and it feels like the Devils have a bunch of the same player. I suppose Janne Kuokkanen would be fine for the cost. But outside of these two and both goaltenders, I’ll pass here on this big slate.

Washington vs Philadelphia

This game could easily end 6-5 or 2-1 tonight. Both teams have inconsistent finishing and defense so far. One interesting spot is Scott Laughton. He has nine points in his last ten games and is only 3600. Outside of that, we have some fairly priced players on the Flyers side. The top line has crushed this season and you can absolutely play them. On the Caps side, I still think Jakub Vrana is underpriced for his multi-goal potential. I also think both goalies are very overrated here.

Carolina vs Nashville

One thing that’s for sure: I think you should hammer Carolina again. With Vincent Trocheck out tonight, we have a spot in the lineup for Morgan Geekie, who once held the league record in points per game for a career. He’s a legitimate punt at 2500 and I don’t think he will be as popular as he should be. Obviously we can run through Sebastian Aho, Marty Necas, Nino Neiderreiter, Jordan Staal, and Andrei Svechnikov. Staal and Svech have the strongest correlation of the five as a stack so I like that the most. You can also play Dougie Hamilton, Brett Pesce, and Jake Bean as they all get PP time. If you want to play Nashville, it’s a rinse and repeat for me. Filip Forsberg and Eeli Tolvanen are the only interesting parts here for forwards. The defense does have some min-priced punts like create-a-players Jeremy Davies and Alex Carrier but the floor is non-existent on these two. Hammer Carolina.

Columbus vs Florida

The Blue Jackets are just beating out the Kings in Expected Goals. Seeing Columbus on the slate should send messages to your brain telling you to use the other team. Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau could slaughter them by themselves, but you can also use Aaron Ekblad, Keith Yandle, Carter Verhaeghe, and Mason Marchment as well. No thanks to any Jackets on this slate. We don’t have to do this to ourselves. You can also play Sergei Bobrovsky.

Winnipeg vs Toronto

This game will probably be very owned due to it being north of the border where defense is optional. If you want to go here, on the Toronto side, I prefer William Nylander and John Tavares. Spending 9k on Auston Matthews feels bad despite his hell of a season. If you want to play Jets, the Pierre Luc Dubois line is my preferred choice. Both goalies should be GPP plays and not too owned either.

Tampa Bay vs Detroit

Detroit has shown us that they’re decent at preventing quality chances in their own end this season. But they are the Red Wings after all and still prone to a crooked number from a quality team like the Lightning. You can certainly play the big guns of the Bolts and I do prefer them over the expensive Canadian stars. I also don’t mind shots on Tyler Johnson and Blake Coleman. Both have strong upside for this price range. I can’t recommend any Red Wing players as they’ve been a mess.

Dallas vs Chicago

Just like last time out, you should hammer the Stars. They have the ability to put big numbers up against bad teams like the Blackhawks and they’re not expensive whatsoever. Guys like Roope Hintz and Denis Gurianov have solid scoring upside for being under 5k. Joe Pavelski and Jamie Benn can dominate the power play if they get a few opportunities. John Klingberg and Miro Heiskanen are also way too cheap for their roles. Overall, the Stars are a great stack. Chicago on the other hand, there isn’t much to love besides Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat. I’d pass on them in one lineup but would get them in if I made a pool. I also don’t mind either goalie here. Anton Khudobin will be the most popular of the two undoubtedly.

Montreal vs Calgary

The last game of the night is a Canadian affair. If he plays, I love the upside of Jake Allen for the price. The Flames have been one of the least threatening teams offensively in this division and Allen has outplayed Carey Price of late. The offense here is not a priority for me but I understand wanting to go to either side. Both teams are fairly cheap. My favorite play for the Flames would be Elias Lindholm and you should just stack their first PP unit if you’re going here. On the other side, I like either of Brendan Gallagher and Jeff Petry or Nick Suzuki and Josh Anderson. Both stacks are not too expensive and have decent upside.

Thanks for reading, good luck tonight!
